Calculate the estimated weight of construction materials from their
volume and density. Choose a common material or enter your own density
for concrete, sand, gravel, stone, cement, soil and other materials.
Calculate Material Weight
How it works:
Weight is calculated from volume multiplied by density. Material
densities are approximate and can vary with moisture, compaction,
composition and product specifications.

How the Weight Calculator Works
The basic relationship between material weight, volume and density is
simple. Weight is calculated by multiplying volume by density.
For example, if you know the volume of concrete required for a project,
you can use an approximate concrete density to estimate the total
material weight.
Weight Formula
Weight = Volume x Density
The calculator converts the entered volume and density into compatible
units before performing the calculation. You can work with cubic
meters, cubic feet, cubic yards, liters or US gallons.
Common Material Densities
The calculator includes approximate reference densities for common
construction materials. Actual density can vary depending on the
material source, moisture content, grading, compaction and product
specifications.
ConcreteApproximately 2,400 kg per cubic meter
SandApproximately 1,600 kg per cubic meter
GravelApproximately 1,680 kg per cubic meter
ABC Stone / AggregateApproximately 1,800 kg per cubic meter
LimestoneApproximately 1,550 kg per cubic meter
SoilApproximately 1,500 kg per cubic meter
CementApproximately 1,440 kg per cubic meter
WaterApproximately 1,000 kg per cubic meter
Example Weight Calculation
Suppose you have 2 cubic meters of concrete and use an approximate
density of 2,400 kilograms per cubic meter.
Weight = 2 x 2,400 = 4,800 kilograms
That is approximately 4.8 metric tonnes. Actual material weight can
differ because concrete density depends on its mix and aggregate
composition.

Important:
This calculator provides an estimate. For structural work,
transportation limits, commercial quantities or material ordering,
use the manufacturer's stated density or verified project specifications
whenever available.
Related Construction Calculators
Weight calculations often work alongside volume, material and unit
calculations. Use these related tools for other construction
measurements.
Multiply the material volume by its density. The basic formula is
weight equals volume multiplied by density. The calculator performs
the required unit conversions automatically.
Can I calculate concrete weight with this calculator?
Yes. Select Concrete, enter the volume and choose the appropriate
volume unit. The calculator uses an approximate concrete density to
estimate the weight.
Can I enter my own material density?
Yes. Select Custom Material and enter the density supplied by the
manufacturer, laboratory test or project specification.
Why can actual material weight differ from the estimate?
Material density can change because of moisture, compaction,
aggregate size, composition, porosity and other physical
characteristics. Actual material weight may therefore differ from
an estimate based on a standard reference density.
What is the difference between kilograms and metric tonnes?
One metric tonne equals 1,000 kilograms. The calculator displays both
units so you can use the result in the format most suitable for your
project.
Can I calculate the weight of sand, gravel and stone?
Yes. The calculator includes approximate reference densities for
sand, gravel, ABC stone and limestone. For a specific product, use
the Custom Material option if you have its verified density.
